Green National Accounting
National yardsticks of sustainable development have just begun to be implemented (WAVES project). GIST Advisory and the GIST collaborative bring considerable expertise and experience to bear in this field. See GIST (www.gistindia.org) for our work on greening the acts of India and it's States.

GREEN ACCOUNTING FOR INDIAN STATES AND UNION TERRITORIES PROJECT (GAISP, a project of GIST)

Incorporating unaccounted ecosystem services, agricultural impacts, mining impacts and educational capital into India's national and state accounts. For this project, Green Indian States Trust (GIST) - whose Trustees have set up GIST Advisory - measured sustainable development at the state level in India, sourcing data from official national databases. GAISP's results are available through a series of monographs (click here to read more), which account for externalities such as the non-marketed services of forests (carbon storage, biodiversity values, ecological services, etc.), the hidden costs of agriculture, losses in freshwater quality and depletion of sub-soil assets & vast unrecorded gains in human capital.
